Ilderim was built in 1936 at Abrahamssen & Börjesson, Ramsö Varv in Sweden. She was commissioned by Swedish banker and industrialist Marcus Wallenberg expressly to compete in the sailing events of the Berlin Olympics, held on the waters of Kiel Bay.

Wallenberg sold Ilderim shortly after the Olympics, as he was already planning his next 8mR. True to his habit of naming all his yachts Ilderim, he required that the name be changed upon every sale. Consequently she spent most of her life sailing as "Christina" or "Christina of Cascais" — until 1989, when Belgian owner Marc Busschots bought her and restored her original name.

Over the decades she sailed the English Solent and the Riviera, and kept home ports in France, Portugal, Ireland and Scotland before arriving in Finland in 2010. She currently races under the burgee of HSS and is equipped by Ebba & Bea Stelander.

Built to race at the XI Olympic Games in Kiel — Ilderim was fast, winning several races, but was disqualified in the seventh start in an incident with Finnish yacht Cheerio.

The sailing events of the 1936 Summer Olympics were held in Kiel on the Baltic coast. Ilderim represented Sweden and proved herself a quick boat, winning several races in the Eight Metre class. In the seventh start, however, she was disqualified in a protest situation involving the Finnish yacht Cheerio.

Historians have noted the political atmosphere of the Games — the incident was documented using film footage shot from a Zeppelin airship, an extraordinary detail that speaks to the era's technological ambition. In the final standings Ilderim finished fourth, with Italy and Germany taking places ahead of her.

Wallenberg's consolation came swiftly: the following year, 1937, Ilderim won the European Championship — Coppa d'Italia in Geneva, vindicating both the boat and her designer Tore Holm.
